History Programs
Kevin Woyce brings local history to life with these hour-long lectures
accompanied by digital slide shows including original color
photography, vintage images, maps, and animations...
HUDSON RIVER LIGHTHOUSES
Henry Hudson explored the river that now bears his name in 1609.
The arrival of the steamboat 200 years later, and the opening of the
Erie Canal in 1825, made the Hudson one of America's busiest
rivers...
Kevin Woyce will explain why there were once 14 lighthouses on the
Hudson River, tell how seven were saved as historic landmarks, and
describe the lives of the men and women who lived and worked at
them. The slide show includes original photography of Hudson River
lighthouses, bridges, and landmarks, plus vintage maps and images
of "lost" lighthouses and historic figures.
HISTORY OF THE JERSEY SHORE
Have you ever wondered why there is an elephant-shaped building
on the beach in Margate? Who built a concrete ship (or why it sank
near Cape May)? How Jersey Shore towns got names such as "Ship
Bottom" or "Loveladies?"
Join Kevin Woyce for a colorful tour of Jersey Shore history, from
shipwrecks, lighthouses, and the first seaside resorts to today's
most popular boardwalks. The slide show includes original
photography of NJ lighthouses, boardwalks, and hotels, plus vintage
maps and images of historic sites, events, and people.
Both programs consist of a slide show and lecture lasting
approximately one hour, followed by a question and answer session
and a book signing.
Base Price: $95 (Price varies with distance traveled.)
